Kalima Tayyab: Introduction, Importance, and Its Impact on Islamic Life

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The magnificent edifice of Islam stands upon the foundation of bearing witness to the Oneness of Allah (Tauheed) and the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH), which we know as the First Kalima Tayyab. This is not merely a collection of a few words, but rather the axis and center of a Muslim’s entire system of thought and action. This article from Jamia Saeedia Darul Quran is an effort to elucidate the depth, virtues, and multifaceted impacts of this sacred Kalima on our lives, in the light of the Quran and Hadith.

What is the First Kalima Tayyab?

The Arabic word “Kalima” means “word” or “statement.” In Islamic terminology, “Kalima Tayyab” refers to the pure statement that admits a person into the fold of Islam and continues to renew their faith. It is the first and most fundamental of the six Kalimas.

The First Kalima: Arabic Text, Urdu Translation, and English Translation:

Arabic Text: لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
Urdu Translation (اردو ترجمہ): اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں، محمد (ﷺ) اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔
English Translation: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah.”

The Depth of First Kalima Tayyab: Two Fundamental Components

This great Kalima consists of two fundamental and extremely important beliefs:

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ (There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah): The Doctrine of Tauheed (Oneness of Allah) This part is the declaration of Tauheed, the first and foremost pillar of Islam. It means that worship, servitude, supplication, and all forms of devotion are exclusively for Allah alone, Who has no partner. He is unique in His Being, Attributes, and Actions. None is comparable to Him, nor does He have any associate or helper. This belief liberates humanity from all forms of creature-worship, superstition, and polytheism (Shirk), causing one to bow only before the Lord of the Worlds.
- In the Light of the Holy Quran: Allah Almighty states in the Quran: قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ “Say, ‘He is Allah, [who is] One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.'” (Surah Al-Ikhlas: 1-4) And in another place: اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ “Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 255 – Part of Ayat-ul-Kursi)
مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ (Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah): The Doctrine of Risalat (Prophethood) The second part of the Kalima is the declaration of the Prophethood of the Noble Prophet, the Seal of the Prophets, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (Peace Be Upon Him). It means that we wholeheartedly accept that Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is the last Prophet and Messenger of Allah Almighty. The teachings he presented are true and a guiding light for all humanity until the Day of Judgment. Obedience to him (PBUH) is, in fact, obedience to Allah Almighty, and his (PBUH) excellent example (Sunnah) is the best model for us.
- In the Light of the Holy Quran: Allah Almighty says: مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَا أَحَدٍ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ “Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets.” (Surah Al-Ahzab: 40) He also stated: وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya: 107)

The Virtues and Importance of Kalima Tayyab in the Light of Prophetic Hadith (PBUH)

The greatness and virtue of the Kalima Tayyab are established by numerous blessed Hadiths. This is the Kalima that adorns a person’s life in this world and the Hereafter.

The Key to Paradise: It is narrated from Hazrat ‘Ubada ibn al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Whoever witnesses that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (PBUH) is Allah’s Messenger, Allah forbids the Hellfire from touching him.” (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
Instruction at the Time of Death: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Urge your dying ones to say ‘Lā ilāha illallāh.'” (Sunan Ibn Majah: 1444) Because whoever’s last words are these will enter Paradise.
A Cause for Forgiveness of Sins: It was narrated from Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “There is no soul that dies bearing witness to ‘Lā ilāha illallāh’, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, from the heart with certainty, but Allah will forgive it.” (Sunan Ibn Majah: 3796)
The Foundation of Islam: Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Islam is based upon five: the testimony of ‘Lā ilāha illallāh’, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, the establishment of the Salat, giving the Zakat, fasting (the month of) Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House.” (Jami At-Tirmidhi: 2609)

Impacts of Kalima Tayyab on a Muslim’s Daily Life

Mere verbal affirmation of the Kalima Tayyab is not sufficient; rather, understanding its requirements and implementing them in one’s life is the duty of every Muslim.

Strong Connection with Allah Almighty: Reciting this Kalima and reflecting upon it constantly reminds the servant that their Owner, Creator, and Sustainer is Allah Almighty alone.
Steadfastness of Faith: This Kalima establishes a clear distinction between a Muslim and a non-Muslim and strengthens and solidifies faith.
Purpose of Life: A Muslim subordinates all their actions and deeds to the meaning of this Kalima; the purpose of their life becomes seeking the pleasure of Allah and following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).
Protection from Shirk (Polytheism): This Kalima is a means of protection from all forms of Shirk (apparent and hidden) and bestows a mindset based on pure Tauheed.
Moral Purity: When a person knows that Allah is present everywhere and the excellent example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the best model, they strive to avoid sins and adopt good morals.
Guarantee of Success in This World and the Hereafter: Sincerely believing in this Kalima and living life according to it leads to worldly peace and eternal salvation.

The First Kalima Tayyab, “Lā ilāha illallāhu Muhammadur Rasūlullāh,” is the cornerstone of Islam, the spirit of faith, and the identity of every Muslim. کلمہ طیب: تعارف، اہمیت اور اسلامی زندگی پر اس کے اثرات

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم۔ اسلام کی عظیم عمارت جس بنیاد پر قائم ہے، وہ توحید و رسالت کی گواہی ہے، جسے ہم پہلا کلمہ طیب کے نام سے جانتے ہیں۔ یہ محض چند الفاظ کا مجموعہ نہیں، بلکہ ایک مسلمان کے پورے نظامِ فکر و عمل کا محور و مرکز ہے۔ جامعہ سعیدیہ دارالقرآن کا یہ مضمون اسی مقدس کلمے کی گہرائی، فضیلت اور ہماری زندگیوں پر اس کے ہمہ جہت اثرات کو قرآن و حدیث کی روشنی میں واضح کرنے کی ایک کوشش ہے۔

پہلا کلمہ طیب کیا ہے؟

عربی لفظ “کلمہ” کا مطلب ہے “بات” یا “بیان”۔ اسلامی اصطلاح میں “کلمہ طیب” سے مراد وہ پاکیزہ بیان ہے جو ایک بندے کو دائرہ اسلام میں داخل کرتا ہے اور اس کے ایمان کی تجدید کرتا رہتا ہے۔ یہ چھ کلموں میں سب سے پہلا اور بنیادی کلمہ ہے۔

پہلا کلمہ عربی متن، اردو ترجمہ اور انگریزی ترجمہ:

عربی متن: لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
اردو ترجمہ: اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں، محمد (ﷺ) اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔
انگریزی ترجمہ (English Translation): “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah.”

کلمہ طیب کی گہرائی: دو بنیادی اجزاء

یہ عظیم کلمہ دو بنیادی اور انتہائی اہم عقائد پر مشتمل ہے:

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ (اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں): عقیدۂ توحید یہ حصہ اسلام کے اولین اور اہم ترین رکن یعنی توحید کا اقرار ہے۔ اس کا مطلب ہے کہ عبادت، بندگی، دعا، اور ہر قسم کی نیاز صرف اور صرف اللہ وحدہ لا شریک کے لیے خاص ہے۔ وہ اپنی ذات، صفات اور افعال میں یکتا ہے۔ کوئی اس کا ہمسر، شریک یا مددگار نہیں۔ یہ عقیدہ انسان کو ہر قسم کی مخلوق پرستی، وہم پرستی اور شرک سے نجات دلا کر صرف ایک رب العالمین کے سامنے جھکاتا ہے۔
- قرآن کریم کی روشنی میں: اللہ تعالیٰ قرآن مجید میں ارشاد فرماتا ہے: قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ “کہہ دیجئے کہ وہ اللہ ایک ہے۔ اللہ بے نیاز ہے۔ نہ اس نے کسی کو جنا اور نہ وہ جنا گیا۔ اور نہ کوئی اس کا ہمسر ہے۔” (سورۃ الاخلاص: ۱-۴) ایک اور مقام پر فرمایا: اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ “اللہ وہ ہے جس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ زندہ اور ہمیشہ قائم رہنے والا ہے۔” (سورۃ البقرۃ: ۲۵۵ – آیت الکرسی کا حصہ)
مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ (محمد ﷺ اللہ کے رسول ہیں): عقیدۂ رسالت کلمے کا دوسرا حصہ نبی اکرم، خاتم النبیین حضرت محمد مصطفیٰ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی رسالت کا اقرار ہے۔ اس کا مطلب ہے کہ ہم دل و جان سے تسلیم کرتے ہیں کہ حضرت محمد ﷺ اللہ تعالیٰ کے آخری نبی اور رسول ہیں۔ آپ ﷺ نے جو تعلیمات پیش فرمائیں وہ برحق ہیں اور قیامت تک آنے والے تمام انسانوں کے لیے مشعلِ راہ ہیں۔ آپ ﷺ کی اطاعت دراصل اللہ تعالیٰ کی اطاعت ہے اور آپ ﷺ کا اسوۂ حسنہ ہمارے لیے بہترین نمونہ ہے۔
- قرآن کریم کی روشنی میں: اللہ تعالیٰ کا ارشاد ہے: مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَا أَحَدٍ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ “محمد (ﷺ) تمہارے مردوں میں سے کسی کے باپ نہیں ہیں لیکن وہ اللہ کے رسول اور تمام نبیوں میں آخری (مہر) ہیں۔” (سورۃ الاحزاب: ۴۰) نیز فرمایا: وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ “اور (اے نبی ﷺ!) ہم نے آپ کو تمام جہانوں کے لیے رحمت بنا کر بھیجا ہے۔” (سورۃ الانبیاء: ۱۰۷)

کلمہ طیب کی فضیلت و اہمیت احادیث نبوی ﷺ کی روشنی میں

کلمہ طیب کی عظمت و فضیلت بے شمار احادیث مبارکہ سے ثابت ہے۔ یہ وہ کلمہ ہے جو انسان کی دنیا و آخرت سنوار دیتا ہے۔

جنت کی کنجی: حضرت عبادہ بن صامت رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: “جس شخص نے گواہی دی کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد ﷺ اللہ کے رسول ہیں، اللہ تعالیٰ اس پر جہنم کی آگ حرام فرما دے گا۔” (صحیح بخاری و صحیح مسلم)
موت کے وقت تلقین: رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: “اپنے مرنے والوں کو ‘لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ’ کی تلقین کیا کرو۔” (سنن ابن ماجہ: ۱۴۴۴) کیونکہ جس کا آخری کلام یہ ہوگا، وہ جنت میں داخل ہوگا۔
گناہوں کی معافی کا سبب: حضرت معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: “کوئی جان ایسی نہیں جو سچے دل اور یقین کے ساتھ ‘لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ’ اور میری رسالت کی گواہی دیتے ہوئے مرے، مگر اللہ تعالیٰ اسے معاف فرما دے گا۔” (سنن ابن ماجہ: ۳۷۹۶)
اسلام کی بنیاد: حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: “اسلام کی بنیاد پانچ چیزوں پر ہے: اس بات کی گواہی دینا کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد ﷺ اللہ کے رسول ہیں، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ دینا، رمضان کے روزے رکھنا اور بیت اللہ کا حج کرنا۔” (جامع الترمذی: ۲۶۰۹)

کلمہ طیب کے ایک مسلمان کی روزمرہ زندگی پر اثرات

کلمہ طیب کا محض زبانی اقرار کافی نہیں، بلکہ اس کے تقاضوں کو سمجھنا اور اپنی زندگی میں نافذ کرنا ہر مسلمان کا فرض ہے۔

اللہ تعالیٰ سے مضبوط تعلق: اس کلمے کا ورد اور اس پر غور و فکر بندے کو ہر لمحہ یہ یاد دلاتا ہے کہ اس کا مالک، خالق اور رازق صرف اللہ تعالیٰ ہے۔
ایمان کی پختگی: یہ کلمہ مسلمان اور غیر مسلم کے درمیان واضح فرق قائم کرتا ہے اور ایمان کو مضبوط و مستحکم بناتا ہے۔
زندگی کا مقصد: ایک مسلمان اپنے تمام اعمال و افعال کو اس کلمے کے مفہوم کے تابع کرتا ہے، اس کی زندگی کا مقصد اللہ کی رضا اور رسول اللہ ﷺ کی سنت کی پیروی بن جاتا ہے۔
شرک سے حفاظت: یہ کلمہ ہر قسم کے شرک (ظاہری و باطنی) سے حفاظت کا ذریعہ ہے اور خالص توحید پر مبنی سوچ عطا کرتا ہے۔
اخلاقی پاکیزگی: جب انسان یہ جان لیتا ہے کہ اللہ ہر جگہ موجود ہے اور محمد ﷺ کا اسوۂ حسنہ بہترین نمونہ ہے، تو وہ گناہوں سے بچنے اور اچھے اخلاق اپنانے کی کوشش کرتا ہے۔
دنیا و آخرت میں کامیابی کی ضمانت: اس کلمے پر صدقِ دل سے ایمان لانا اور اس کے مطابق زندگی گزارنا دنیاوی سکون اور اخروی نجات کا باعث ہے۔

کلمہ طیب کی تعلیم و ترویج – جامعہ سعیدیہ دارالقرآن کا کردار

دینی ادارے، بالخصوص جامعہ سعیدیہ دارالقرآن جیسے ادارے، اس بنیادی کلمے کی تعلیم اور اس کی حقیقی روح کو مسلمانوں، خصوصاً نئی نسل تک پہنچانے میں کلیدی کردار ادا کرتے ہیں۔ قرآن و سنت کی تعلیمات کا مرکز ہونے کی حیثیت سے، ہمارا اولین مقصد یہی ہے کہ ہر فرد کلمہ طیب کے نور سے اپنے دل و دماغ کو منور کرے۔

خلاصہ کلام

پہلا کلمہ طیب “لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ” اسلام کا سنگ بنیاد، روحِ ایمان اور ہر مسلمان کی پہچان ہے۔ یہ صرف الفاظ نہیں بلکہ ایک مکمل ضابطۂ حیات کا نقطہ آغاز ہے۔ اس کا شعوری اقرار، اس کے مفہوم کی گہری سمجھ اور اس کے تقاضوں کے مطابق عملی زندگی گزارنا ہی دنیا و آخرت میں ہماری فلاح و کامیابی کا ضامن ہے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ ہمیں اس کلمے کی حقیقت کو سمجھنے اور اس پر ثابت قدم رہنے کی توفیق عطا فرمائے۔ آمین۔
