When the blessed month of Ramadan arrived, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) would teach his companions specific prayers to recite. These prayers are not only a means of seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan but also a way to spiritually connect with the essence of Ramadan. Below are some of the prayers the Prophet (ﷺ) emphasized during this sacred month.

1. Prayer for Safety and Acceptance:

The Prophet (ﷺ) taught his companions to recite the following prayer at the The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan beginning of Ramadan:

Arabic:
“اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْنِي مِنْ رَمَضَانَ، وَسَلِّمْ رَمَضَانَ لِي، وَتَسَلَّمْهُ مِنِّي مُتَقَبَّلًا.”

Translation:
“O Allah, save me for Ramadan, and save Ramadan for me, and accept it from me.”

This prayer seeks Allah’s protection during the month and asks for the acceptance of one’s worship and good deeds.

2. Comprehensive Ramadan Prayer:

In another narration from Tabarani, it is mentioned that Muslims would The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan recite the following prayer when Ramadan began:

Arabic:
“اللَّهُمَّ أَظَلَّ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ وَحَضَرَ، فَسَلِّمْهُ لِي، وَسَلِّمْنِي فِيهِ، وَتَسَلَّمْهُ مِنِّي، اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي صِيَامَهُ وَقِيَامَهُ، صَبْرًا وَاحْتِسَابًا، وَارْزُقْنِي فِيهِ الْجِدَّ وَالِاجْتِهَادَ وَالْقُوَّةَ وَالنَّشَاطَ، وَأَعِذْنِي فِيهِ مِنَ السَّآمَةِ وَالْفَتْرَةِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالنُّعَاسِ، وَوَفِّقْنِي فِيهِ لِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ، وَاجْعَلْهَا خَيْرًا لِي مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ.”

Translation:
“O Allah, the month of Ramadan has come near, so make it a means of safety for me, and protect me in it. Accept it from me. O Allah, grant me the ability to fast and pray during it with patience and sincerity. Grant The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan me diligence, effort, strength, and energy in it. Protect me from boredom, laziness, and sleepiness. Grant me the opportunity to witness Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), and make it better for me than a thousand months.”

3. Prayer for Forgiveness:

Aisha (رضی اللہ عنہا) reported that she asked the Prophet (ﷺ) what prayer The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan she should recite during Ramadan. He (ﷺ) replied:

Arabic:
“اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي.”

Translation:
“O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”

This simple yet profound prayer is a reminder of Allah’s infinite mercy and the importance of seeking His forgiveness during Ramadan.

4. Prayer for Laylatul Qadr:

When Aisha (رضی اللہ عنہا) asked the Prophet (ﷺ) what to pray if she knew which night was Laylatul Qadr, he (ﷺ) advised her to recite:

Arabic:
“اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي.”

Translation:
“O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”

This prayer is especially significant during the last ten nights of Ramadan, when Laylatul Qadr is most likely to occur.

5. Prayers for the Three Ashras:

The month of Ramadan is divided into three parts, each with its own spiritual The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan focus:

  • First Ashra (Mercy):
    “يَاحَيُّ یَا قَیُّوْمُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ نَسْتَغِیْثُ”
    (“O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, we seek help through Your mercy.”)
    Or:
    “رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَیْرٌ الرَّاحِمِیْنَ”
    (“O Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the Merciful.”)
  • Second Ashra (Forgiveness):
    “أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ رَبِّيْ مِنْ کُلِّ ذَنْبٍ وَّأَتُوْبُ إِلَیْهِ”
    (“I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for every sin, and I repent to Him.”)
    Or:
    “أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الَّذِيْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيَّ الْقَیُّوْمَ وَ أَتُوْبُ إِلَیْهِ”
    (“I seek forgiveness from Allah, besides whom there is no god, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him.”)
  • Third Ashra (Salvation from Hellfire):
    “اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنَّا”
    (“O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive us.”)
    Or:
    “اَللّٰهُمَّ أَعْتِقْ رِقَابَنَا مِنَ النَّارِ”
    (“O Allah, free our necks from the Fire.”)

6. General Ramadan Prayers:

The Prophet (ﷺ) emphasized four things to increase during The Prayers of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in Ramadan :

  1. Declaration of Faith: “لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله”
  2. Seeking Forgiveness: “أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله”
  3. Asking for Paradise: “أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّة”
  4. Seeking Refuge from Hellfire: “وَ أَعُوْذُبِكَ مِنَ النَّار”

Combining these, the following prayer can be recited:
“لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله، أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله، أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّة، وَ أَعُوْذُبِكَ مِنَ النَّار.”
(“There is no god but Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah, I ask You for Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire.”)
